Hello, and welcome to the BCDA Blog. As you can tell it’s been awhile since we last posted an update but going forward we hope to make this a regular occurrence that we publish along with the production of our three newsletters per year. Newsletters are sent out to every mailbox in Boone County, as well as Economic Development Contacts throughout the state and are posted on our website (please let us know if you didn’t get one and would like to, we will soon have the option of sending them out via email!). This monthly blog however will be something we hope to regularly update each month with bits of news, information, and highlights for past and future Boone County area events! If there is a topic you would like us to blog about or something you feel should be included such as an event or otherwise feel free to contact the BCDA Staff at any time, we always appreciate suggestions.

Events taking place in June of 2016 to look forward to include:

Cops & Bobbers (Kids fishing day) – June 11th

Louis Hoppe Memorial Run – June 17th

Primrose Alumni – June 18th

Albion/Boone Central Alumni – June 18th

Petersburg Firemans Dance – June 18th

Albion Smoke N Chrome – June 18th

Petersburg Carnival Days – June 21st and 22nd

Plus the Albion Stock Car Races are taking place every Friday evening throughout the Summer! For more information on any of these events please watch our Facebook page or contact our office directly.

Aside from events the BCDA staff has been busy with many other projects and activities. We are currently in the process of constructing a Boone County Promotional Video to highlight all the wonderful events, quality of life aspects, and people that Boone County has to offer. This video will be used for recruitment of businesses and people as well as posted online for anyone and everyone to view; giving those outside the community a glimpse into what makes Boone County great. We hope to have the video completed by the end of 2016 and available for community use by next year, STAY TUNED!

Planting of crops is moving along steadily but rains have hindered the process this spring. The rain however, has not slowed construction projects throughout the area, as the Good Samaritan addition, Boone Central School renovations, Pillen Family Farms Feed Mill near Albion, Stock Realty Building in St. Edward, and multiple highway improvements projects in the area continue to proceed. With so many projects going on, travel delays, street blockage, and other frustrations can arise. We want to urge all community members to please be patient and welcoming of all construction crews as well as cautious and safe while near construction sites. Not many communities can say they have so much going on; it truly is a sign of the growth and progress Boone County is currently making.

If anyone has questions or concerns for the BCDA staff please feel free to email, call, or stop in the office at any time!

Thank you and we hope to see you out and about Boone County!

Monthly Blog

The Monthly Blog is a new addition to the BCDA website. BCDA does 3 newsletters a year. The newsletters are sent out to every mail box in Boone County. We will also be uploading the newsletters to our website. The monthly blog will be a way for us to share current information with local businesses and current Boone County residents. If there is a topic you would like us to blog about feel free to contact our office.

Mitch and I (Aubrey) have been working hard to put together Business &Industry day for the 8th graders and 11th graders of Boone County. B&I day is a way for the local students to meet with business owners/mangers to promote awareness of potential careers available right here in Boone County. The schools participating this year include Boone Central, St. Michaels, Riverside and St. Edward.

The middle school students will have the opportunity to tour the Boone County Health Center, Cargill, Cornerstone Bank and Green Line Equipment. We wanted to give the 8th graders a chance to visit some of the larger employers in the county that offer a wide variety of careers. The high school students will have the opportunity to visit a wider variety of businesses throughout the county with an emphasis on a more specific job/career.

The middle school day will take place February 18 and the high school day will be on April 15. If your business is interested in participating the high school B&I day please contact our office to line something up. We think this is a great opportunity to get local students into businesses they could potentially have a career at or a line of work they may be interested in pursuing. We hope that some students will have a chance to line up summer internships and develop a relationship with business owners/managers throughout Boone County.

If you would like more information please call Mitch at the BCDA office (402)-395-3356. We would like as many business as possible to participate in the high school B&I day to make it as successful as possible.
